RE: SFM.CGI displays in browser...

SFM.CGI is not a stand-alone e-mail software.
It is a CGI script which let you send an e-mail from a browser.
So, you cannot fix it.

Are you talking about mathematics or programming?
If mathematics, you may take Mathematica, MaTX, Octave or xmaxima.
If you need the calculation within a certain program, read the manual of the program first.

Would you tell me which version of moderated DoubleMessageBoard do you use?

Anyway...

If you use version 2, open bbs.cgi and go to line 146 where you find

} else {

}
}

You change it to

bbs.html permissions

I use moderated message board and it was working fine until now. the problem is every time someone posts a message, it turns the bbs.html permissions OFF and the page is not accessible. Same thing happens when I display a message from the admin page. I have to manually set the permissions to 744 every time. I do not know if this is due to some setting on my server. Is it possible to add a line to the script which makes the bbs.html accessible (like chmod 744) at the end of script execution.
Thanks very much in advance,
Prakash

Password protecting admin

Hi,
Congrats on writing a simple and useful program. I am a novice when it comes to cgi and perl. is there any way of protecting the admin function with a password? We use public computers and there is always a chance that somebody might visit the administrator page and view the unmoderated posts. Is it possible to add some code so that the admin page comes up only if one get thro a login page? I am using moderated DMB v.2 on sun solaris.
Thanks,
Prakash

RE: Auto filter words, auto delete old files

1)
Auto delebr>Auto delete is not a big deal. I've already made that.
Go to my web site http://visitware.com/sobaya/dmb.html
where you can take either "prof DMB", "SP DMB" or "MAX DMB".
(Actually, "auto delete" can be added to other boards too.)

2)
Yes, you can contain the board in frame if it is "Iframe" or not.

3)

Auto filter words, auto delete old files

Can it do the above? - I do not want my site to be filled with foul words. Second, can the board be configured to auto delete older files once a specified mb is used up? I'm not rich to pay for bigger mb :) Hope you can answer me. I like your simple board.
Lastly I can contained this board in Iframe, can I?

Thanking you in advance. Please email me, I may need more help from you - not for free of course, small amount I can afford.

My suggestion to all out there: You guys should provide some kind of P.O. address where WE happy users can out of the blues send you a few dollars to make you programmers happy for the day. I would do that. Mm?

please specify which version (for example "SP v.2") you are using.

Since I don't know the version you are using, I'm not sure...
But I guess you are about to make a new messageboard;
and probably you have the directory permission wrong;
so that the CGI cannot create a file in the directory.

When I try to access the board, I get to the web masters page first and then when I enter the password I get this error message:

The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:

Check the permission of MessageBoard directory Permission denied at c:\inetpub\wwwroot\eklyptic\cgi-bin\bbs.cgi line 391.

My other question (besides the error massage) is: Will the board always go to the Webmssters page first or do I need to make a seperate page for the bbs?

Hi Ernie,

Would you tell me the version number and when the script fails. "faulty header" is caused if something went wrong when the script just starts to send HTML document. But Flex_DMB sends HTML document to you in various stages; when you try to login it at the first time, next when you make a messageboard, after the board is made and when a guest try to post an article, or when you log

Great script fails on new server

Hey there,

Just wanted to thank you for such a beautiful gift. I have used FLEX DMB on numerous pages, from online magazines to music group webpages. It is incredibly flexible and the SSI features make it a breeze to integrate into my pages.

Alas, I have moved hosts, and for some reason, their CGI-BIN returns internal server errors repeatedly. The error logs return "faulty header" errors.

I am back on your site to perhaps find something like FLEX that will be compatible with my new setup.

Again, great work and Peace be to you.

re: problems with DBMWriter

Please do not double-click DBMWriter. Doing so does not start DBMWriter. It starts MacPerl - a programming language. And MacPerl comes with DBMWriter is MacPerl Japanese edition. The alien-looking-word is Japanese.

To use DBMWriter: please customize templates; then drop the template-folder onto DBMWriter.

If you are interested in programming in Perl, you want to find MacPerl Deutsch edition.

Thank you for your comments.

Hello again,

when I follow the link "other softs from the same author" (page "http://www.visitware.com/sobaya/admin.html"), I see the same "alien-encrypted" text.
Again I made a screenshot under http://machauer.com/DMBboard-Shots/07.jpg

Even changing "View/Encoding/..." in my browser (Netscape 4.0.8, international english version) did not help.

Do I have a misconfiguration? I never saw this effect on other sites, except on native russian and japanese ones.

Many many thanks in advance for Your time and advice

re: Permissions for perl scripts/write

You may try "chmod", a perl command to change permission.
Insert the following line just after the script writes to the file.

chmod 0777, "file.cgi";

P.S.
What is "file.cgi"? Is it cgi script?
If so, you have a cgi script which writes another cgi script.
That kind of script can be a BIG SECURITY HOLE!
DO NOT USE THAT SCRIPT.
You want to find a script which does what you want but safer.
And if "file.cgi" is a data file, I don't understand why the
extension is "cgi" and why it needs the permission 0777.
Anyway, I wish you good luck.

seems that it may be the fault of 'Apache - httpd' but I personally have never seem a script

re: help

Hi Colin,

The very thing you need is "CGI friendly web site."
Do you have a web site with Perl or PHP?
Scripting language can be any other but
Perl and PHP are most common for CGI.

If you want to get the input from your guest via email,
you also need "sendmail" program in your web server.
(other mail program such as "qmail" also works.)

The way a CGI work depends on the type of scripting
language (and mail program) you use.
And I cannot comment any further as I do not know
which scripting language you use.

Is this any help for you?
